Scout Programs

Have an ARTrageous adventure at Zone of Light Studios with your girl and boy scout troop.  We will work with your troop to customize a workshop to meet the interests and ages of your troop on a variety of badge requirements.  Scouts can also take advantage of pre-scheduled open clinics.  Earn credits towards a badge from our team of qualified instructors in our professionally equipped art studio.  All art supplies and materials included.

Saturday open clinics in a wide range of offerings including work on the Art, Duct Tape, Graphic Arts, Sculpture and Woodcarving Merit Badges.

 Tuition:  $27 for each adult/child pair per class. ($12 for an additional sibling per class) plus appropriate taxes.

ART Merit Badge

Today's clinic is ART.  There are as many definitions of what is "ART" as there are paintings in the Louvre.  For some people, Art is a way of life, for some Art IS life - and since 1911, Art is a merit badge you can doodle, paint or mouse-click to earn!

In this clinic, you will have the opportunity to complete most of the requirements for Art Merit Badge.

Duck Tape Merit Badge
with Dean White

 Is it “Duck” or  “Duct” Tape?  Come to this fun clinic and find out!  While this is not an “official” Boy Scout merit badge, participants will the special badge. 

 Learn about the history of the amazing tape and how to make a variety of decorative as well as functional objects.  You do not need to be a Boy Scout to earn this badge – siblings and friends are invited too!

NOTE:  A variety of colors of duck tape will be available at the clinic – if participants would like to use one of the over 50 specialty Duck Tape brand rolls  – from polka dots to Angry Birds – please bring it to the workshop.  you can use your own tape too.

 There are very few things you cannot make with duct tape (a tasty sandwich is one of them!)  And now you can duct tape your way to a merit badge. 


In this clinic, you will have the opportunity to complete most of the requirements for DUCT TAPE  Merit Badge.

Sculpture Merit Badge

Today's clinic is SCULPTURE.  This merit badge introduces Scouts to sculpture, and art form that allows an artist to express what he sees and feels by using these three dimensions by shaping materials such as clay, stone, metal, and wood.  You will learn to sculpt with (air-drying) clay and plasticine clay.

In this clinic, you will have the opportunity to complete most of the requirements for SCULTPURE Merit Badge.

Drafting Merit Badge

Todays' clinic is DRAFTING.  Drafting is the first step to creating bridges, palaces, cars, toothbrushes, virtually everything that can be built or manufactured.  With a sharp pencil, a ruler, and some graph paper (or a simple CAD program), you can create your own merit badge.

COIN Collecting Merit Badge

Today's clinic is COIN COLLECTING.  Of all  the things you can collect, coins make the most cents!  It many not be required for Eagle, but it is the merit badge most likely to increase in value.  We'll look at historical, foreign, bizarre coins and more.

Woodcarving Merit Badge

Today's clinic is woodcarving.  Affectionately dubbed "Fingercarving Merit Badge", at this clinic we will stress safety and proper handling of knives and carving tools.  We'll discuss design, tool, and wood selection, and carve a neckerchief slide!

Graphic arts Merit Badge

Today's clinic is GRAPHIC ARTS.  This merit badge introduces Scouts to the creative processes involved in printed communication - be it business cards, books, T-shirts or billboards.  Come with an idea for a piece you'd like to print - you'll need to make multiple copies.  Bring 50 sheets of paper, and we can print it at the clinic!

In this clinic, you will have the opportunity to complete most of the requirements for GRAPHIC ARTS Merit Badge.
